We expect children to be on time. Late arrival disrupts class and causes loss of instruction time. Any student who arrives at school after 8:30 is considered tardy. Three tardy arrivals in one quarter will prompt a call to the student's parents.
Students checked into school after 10:00am or pulled out before 1:30pm will be counted as absent for half the day. For more information, please see the District's attendance policy.
An application for withdrawal should be completed by the parent of any student who is withdrawing during the course of a semester. Teachers and staff will summarize the student's progress and prepare the student's file for forwarding to their next school of enrollment.
"Each school shall keep accurate attendance records. Except in extraordinary cases, as determined by the local Board of Trustees, credit will not be given to any student in a subject when the student was not in attendance at least 90% of the time that subject was being taught." With the exception of school-sponsored activities that directly involve the student, absence from any class for any reason including illness or family convenience shall be counted when the percentage of attendance and consequent eligibility for credit is calculated.
Cancellation of School and
Cancellation of school takes place only during circumstances such as extreme weather or equipment failure. On such days, every practical means is used to notify parents of a cancellation, including radio, and TV. Please stay tuned on these days.
Lost and Found
We have a lost and found basket located in the northeast corner of the lunchroom. Each year money articles of clothing are not claimed. The unclaimed clothing is given to special agencies at the end of the year. We recommend that you label all articles of clothing with your child's name.
The office phone is a business phone and is not to be used by students, except in an emergency. Students are not allowed to use the phone to make personal arrangements (such as requesting permission to go to another student's home after school, etc.).
Visitors and Volunteers
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to visit or volunteer in our school. The Ririe Elementary considers its parent volunteers as a very special resource. Parents are encouraged to help in all classrooms, programs and extracurricular activities.
If you have time or skills you can share to make our school a better place for student to learn and grow, please call the office, your child's teacher or the P.T.S.O.
The students at Ririe Elementary have four partied per year. Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's and End-of-the-Year Field Day. Parents are to be invited to participate.
Bicycles may be ridden to school and should be kept in the bike rack. For safety reasons, bicycles should never be ridden on the school grounds. All bicycles should be locked to insure their safekeeping.
Report Cards and Pupil Progress
Report cards will be sent home after the completion of each nine weeks. Parent Teacher Conferences are held after the first and third nine weeks to discuss student progress. At any time, should the need arise for a conference, parents should not hesitate to contact their child's teacher or the elementary office.
Homework is important. It is an extension of the learning that takes place in school. Homework can provide practice and drill that reinforces classroom learning and can provide opportunities for independent study, research and creative thinking. Parents can help their children by arranging a quiet, comfortable place for their students to work and by seeing that assignments are completed.
The school provides ball and playground equipment. Children are not to bring their personal belongings without permission from their teacher. The school will not be responsible for lost or broken items. Examples include portable radios, dolls, toys, etc. In addition, baseballs, softballs, and wook metal bats are never allowed at school. Tennis balls, waffle balls, and wiffle bats are allowed with the teacher's permission.
